Over the air - Review

Hi all,

I'm just arriving to my country after OTA conference, and my overall opinion about it is really good.

I would like to start talking about organization what it was perfect, very fast registration procedure, good coordination between conferences, no panic when alarm went off!, enough food to satisfy hungry developers, and nice Yahoo! Party with music and plenty of hot-dogs, pizza, hamburgers and beers?.what more would developers want to have?

Regarding to talks, it was great the variety of topics covered by them from location frameworks (Yahoo! FireEagle) to widgets (S60, Yahoo! Go, ), SVG, JME, Mobile Web, Web APIs, Flash apps, Windows Mobile, Qtopia, Android, Web Apps, Cloud computing, user experience? But most important thing was that experts in each area were presenting these topics so interactivity during talks was high.

Master classes were most technical sessions showing snippets code and showing in-live the possibilities of each technology, so from developer point of view this kind of sessions are the best way to know new technologies as well as its very attractive to us in order to incite developers to create new applications based on it.

All night hack-a-thon deserve a separate mention, number of developers participating on that long session was really big and consequently the higher number of applications reflected that fact. Quality and creativity were in most of cases the best words to define them.

Finally highlight ad-hoc and improvisation conversations with tech leaders and developers sharing different points of view and interests as well as recruitment staff of some companies looking for future tech and developer leaders

Just comment I took part in OTA collaborating with Applix and in a talk about MIDP 3.0- State of Art and a Master-class showing demos of MIDP 3.0 applications running over Aplix MIDP 3.0 beta-implementation.

The slides of our presentations are online:

MIDP 3.0 - Master Class

MIDP 3.0 - State of art

In a short time all OTA presentations will be available in that site.

Cheers and I hope see you soon in next developer?s event,

Oscar

SUN will offer JVM to IPhone

Few days ago Apple showed to world the IPhone SDK Roadmap proving clearly an aggressive strategy to become a fierce competitor in mobile market.

Apple mobile strategy is based in two main blocks:

  • Business mail:
Compatibility with Microsoft Exchange servers and direct access from devices with Active Sync as well as Cisco VPN clients for IPhone devices.
  • Free SDK with full API access:
Apple has decided avoid restrictions to IPhone libraries and provide full free access to IPhone APIs so each developer will be able to create applications with any of them. Every IPhone application (Mail, SMS, Calendar, Camera) had been created with these APIs so potential number of powerful applications is high.

SUN doesn’t want to loose opportunity to hook Java developers to IPhone/IPod touch platform so Eric Klein, vice president of Java marketing at SUN confirmed plan to release a JVM some time after June, as well as he has said: "We're going to make sure that the JVM offers Java applications as much access to the native functionality of the IPhone as possible"

It will be a good opportunity to develop Java applications compatible IPhone/IPod touch devices and who knows if in the future, first Java-FX implementation for mobiles will be based on IPhone SDK....

Greetings from Santa Clara (JMEDD)

Hi people!
I'm in a break time between conferences here in Santa Clara, JMEDD is almost finished and I would like to share with you my first impressions. This event is really great because it groups in the same room people of most important companies and developers which work in projects related to mobile/embedded and Java. I'm getting a lot of really good contacts that will help me in on-going projects and probably in future ones. Talks and presentations are going great with very interest by the audience and always with interesting questions/answers time. I hope a lot of people are watching in live broadcast the event, anywhere slides and recorded videos are or will be soon available to be downloaded from JMEDD site....

I have to say bye because next talk is starting....

See you soon!!

P.S. Here, there is a big interest about Betavine from developers....Great!!
