Background:
Heartlines is a non-profit organisation in South Africa that is planning to launch a movement for good, called the GOOD movement, which aims to unite active citizens, and encourage others to create a loosely affiliated group of people all over South Africa who are committed to making SA a better place. Members of GOOD are envisaged as people from all parts of the country, all races, all ages but with a common vision to improve our country.

The movement will be supported by a web platform, which will enable people to sign up and then receive and publish news, events, and opportunities for making a difference for good, in their area. Access to the web platform will in the majority of cases be via member's mobile phones due to connectivity and bandwidth issues in South Africa.

The Challenge:
One of the activities that we'd like members to undertake is to make certain commitments on joining, which they will be reminded of during the year. These commitments could be anything from, living according to certain values, making a difference in a particular area, getting involved with a specific organisation, to signing-up a number of new members, or whatever. The idea would be to have members commit to one or more goals, with timelines that they choose, and then we remind them of what they committed to, at various times, as specified by them (weekly, monthly).

The application that needs to be developed could be in the form of a game, or whatever seems appropriate, to make committing to goals a fun and worthwhile activity. The reminder aspect of the app is key to it being something useful, and not just goals that are thought about once and then forgotten. The number of goals committed to, needs to be variable, as do the goal dates that are selected for the achievement of the goal. To date, we are unaware of any examples of something like this, which is why we would like to develop it.

To give you an idea of the type of information that will be available on the GOOD site, have a look at www.forgood.co.za which is the current interim site.

The Benefit:
The members will benefit by having the opportunity to be specific about the ways in which they would like to make a difference for good, and at the same time set goals to achieve them.

Heartlines would appreciate your ideas for developing an application of this nature, and look forward to hearing from you.
