Re: Will whitelisting our site s...

nherriot,

Hi Ian,

I believe this is the case. The URL will be content adapted unless it falls into the correct DNS type, or the HTTP Request does not have the correct attributes.
You can also get your URL white listed which will tell the content adaptation engine to ignore it.

You can find out more here about the MICS team.

I'll forward this on to our expert so he may expand on what I've said and check it's validity! :-)

Sorry about any issues this may have caused, and you can always add a comment to the blog I've forwarded you to which Brian will read.

Kind regards, Nicholas

Will whitelisting our site solve...

ipxl,

We have developed an app which uses regular MIDP http to retrieve daily content and configuration updates.
We came across this issue in testing.

The app had been pre-installed on the phone when another SIM card had been in the handset. When we started up our app with a brand new Vodafone SIM the app failed to connect and retrieve settings because it was apparently being redirected to the Vodafone first user page which informs users that vodafone are performing mobile content adaptation.

I know this scenario is slightly contrived as normally the customer who purchased the app will have most likely attempted to install the app via the mobile browser and will have already have encountered the Vodafone first-time-user config page. But -- would approval of our web server URL to the whitelist prevent this situation from occurring.

I am not clear on this ?

Re: Acer Aspire one with Vodafon...

g3sna,

Thanks, I already found that APN value. I used vodafone/vodafone instead of web/web and that seemed to work. Still having problems receiving SMS messages though - of course I can't send because it is PAYT. I did confirm that the SIM works though by putting it my contract vodafone N95 and sending a message. The support people told me that both send and receive were blocked but they did unblock the receive SMS. Waiting now to see if it works so that I can complete registration for Top Ups.

Thanks once again.

Re: Acer Aspire one with Vodafon...

Neil,

If it is the PAYT modem, try using:

pp.internet

as your APN, and web/web as username/password combination.

Acer Aspire one with Vodafone E1...

g3sna,

HI,

I'm trying to get this modem to work with linux on the AA1. I have the Mobile Partner patch installed and I'm trying to set up a connection but getting an error when dialing. I'm using a static setup with APN pp.vodafone.co.uk , Access number *99# and user name/password = wap/wap with CHAP authentication.

Are there any drivers here abouts for the Acer netbooks that I could try?

Any other ideas I might try?

Many thanks,

Stuart

BTW Under the System Info Networks tab this shows as an Huawei E220 3G modem

skweej,

The USB mode-switch app was definately a foundational key to installing the VMC. VMC won't even begin installation without it.

Thanks again.

andrewbird,

Hi skweej,
That's good to know, don't beat yourself up too much, I don't think you'd have been able to complete the task without the missing 64 but version of usb_modeswitch.

Best regards,

Andrew
